The Story

Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890) was a Post-Impressionist painter whose revolutionary works continue to captivate and inspire to this day. He created over 2100 works including 860 oil paintings, remarkably within a ten-year period. His dedication to art was absolute. Painting was a remedy and a lifeline to which he returned repeatedly to help himself heal after episodes of psychiatric disorder.

Vincent’s use of vivid color and expressive brushstrokes evoke the passion and emotion he felt as he painted. “I am seeking, I am striving, I am in it with all my heart,” he wrote. Viewing his work, we are drawn in by his ability to convey a connection to the human experience and his embrace of the wonders of nature through his art.
